Fumitory

History

Its name means “smoke of the earth” because the plant's juice makes the eyes water just as smoke does. It is also called “widow grass”. The common name “fumitory” dates back to the early 13th century, in the form “fumus terrae”.

Properties

Fumitory’s medicinal properties have been known for centuries. As a cholagogue, diuretic and depurative, it eliminates toxins. It is also an aperient and tonic.

When used externally, fumitory is used to treat dry patches and eczema.

Most interesting is its ability to protect the skin against the damaging effects of ozone, which increases in the air when pollution is high.

Fumitory is found in our “Extreme Defence” creamto protect the skin against the damaging effects of ozone.
